Updated November 3, 2026. This article is published by Hey Love Letters, which is one of the tools below. We used the same criteria for every site and point out where ours isn't the best fit.
A digital love letter is a letter you write online and send as a link. The person opens it on their phone, usually with an animation, sometimes with photos and a song. There are free tools and paid ones, and the differences come down to a few things: how long the free version lets you write, whether photos and music are included, and how long the link keeps working.
How we compared them
We read each site's official pricing and FAQ pages on November 3, 2026. Where a page didn't say, we wrote "not stated" rather than guess. Prices change with promotions, so check the site before you pay.
What we looked at:
- Price: free, one-time payment, or subscription
- Free version limits
- Photos and music
- QR code for printing or slipping into a gift
- Privacy: password, private link
- How long the letter stays online

Create your love letterThe tools, one by one
Letters by Heart
Letters open inside an animated envelope. There's a free tier, and a one-time lifetime plan for longer letters, with no subscription. The site also sells photo puzzles.
- Good at: the envelope effect, and you can try it without paying.
- Watch out for: the free tier is limited to 100 characters, which is a sentence or two.
- Best for: a short, sweet note.
Love Letter Link
You write up to 2,000 characters, preview the envelope for free without an account, and pay $2.99 once to get a private link and a QR code. The person can reply for free.
- Good at: free reply from the recipient, no sign-up to try.
- Watch out for: text only. The site says anyone with the link or QR code can open the letter.
- Best for: people who want the words to carry everything.
Emocia
Your words type out letter by letter over a design, with music and visual effects. Free letters get 2 message pages. Premium ($2.99 one-time) adds unlimited pages, photo pages and a vertical MP4 export with the music included.
- Good at: the MP4 export with music, at a low price.
- Watch out for: the music is from Emocia's built-in melodies, so you can't use "your" song.
- Best for: posting the letter as a video on TikTok or Reels.
ShareLove Letters
Free to write and share, with 30 templates, password protection, anonymous letters, scheduled delivery and a big quote library.
- Good at: the most free features on this list, plus a password option.
- Watch out for: free letters don't last. A guest link expires after 7 days, and a free account keeps letters for 30 days. Keeping one for good costs $3.99, and the VIP plan is a subscription ($4.99/month or $29.99/year).
- Best for: a free letter you only need for a few days.
LoveQR
A heart-shaped QR code that opens a page with up to 5 photos as a slideshow, your song from YouTube or Spotify, and a together-since counter. One-time payment, and the site says the page stays live forever.
- Good at: the heart-shaped QR code, made to be printed.
- Watch out for: up to 5 photos.
- Best for: a printed card or gift tag with a QR code.
2-Luv
A letter that opens like an envelope, with up to 10 photos with captions and dates, your song, places, and an optional password. It says letters never show up in search engines. You pay once to unlock it.
- Good at: photos with captions and dates, places, and the password.
- Watch out for: we couldn't find the price of the main letter on the page we checked, and you need to pay to see the full experience.
- Best for: telling your story with places and dates.
Hey Love Letters
Our tool. You build a page with up to 12 photos, your song and a letter, pick one of 16 designs, and send it by private link or QR code.
- Good at: every purchased card has no expiration date, on every plan, and the link doesn't expire, so a printed QR code keeps working. You can make up to 3 cards and preview them before paying. The Single card + Video plan exports an MP4 video. Your dashboard shows how many times the card was opened, and you can edit it after you send it.
- Watch out for: it costs more than Emocia or Love Letter Link ($4.99 vs $2.99). YouTube songs can't be included in the video for copyright reasons, so the video uses our built-in soundtrack or your own audio. There's no password option.
- Prices: Single card $4.99, Single card + Video $7.99, Unlimited (as many cards as you want) $9.99. One-time payment, no subscription, 7-day refund window.
- Best for: a letter with lots of photos and your song, on a link that doesn't expire.

FAQ
Is there a free love letter website? Yes. ShareLove Letters, Emocia and Letters by Heart all have free versions, each with limits: short letters, fewer pages, or links that expire after a few days.
How long does a digital love letter last? It depends on the site and plan. Some free links expire after 7 or 30 days. If you plan to print a QR code, check that the letter has no expiration date.
Can I add our song? On Hey Love Letters, LoveQR and 2-Luv you choose the song. Emocia and ShareLove Letters use their own built-in music.
